Bio

Kat Kidwell loves to meow and make music. The kid who's spent over half her life writing tunes grew up in woodsy East Lyme, CT and now lives in the spirit of Chicago, IL. Kat started out as a girl named Kathy Wyand who longed to be a veterinarian. When she watched the Beatles film "A Hard Day's Night" just before elementary school graduation, the "straight-A student" realized what she'd love more than any normal education: to be taken in by some pros and taught how to be a rock star. The dozens of folkie support groups and professional songwriting workshops she went to throughout her teens, though, never really knew how to accept the animalistic, quirky lyrics she loved creating.

The frustrated half-feline figured out that the formal training wasn't helping. She moved across the country hoping the new environment would inspire her to sharpen her skills based only on her own inner advice (it took a while), and enrolled at Columbia College to study her secondary fascination: audio recording.

Kat Kidwell has played live shows on WCNI New London, made several appearances at the spiritual gallery Life Force Arts Center, performed for Columbia College's annual show Gender Fusions and played for special events at the Children's Museum of Southeastern CT. The alternative singer-guitarist wants to join a rock band, but till then, she's performed in the short-lived Chicago LGBT Youth Show Choir and acted in the mental illness education comedy troupe Second Step Players. She also gets a kick out of teaching guitar and doing presentations for middle schoolers, still loves the Beatles, and plays a wild game of Scrabble.
